A Week Without Golf is Like a Week Without Light!
Hey Nuts,
I sure hope all of you are playing more golf than I am at the moment! I have gone since the Sunday round of the Dragon Ridge Member/Member Tournament (more on that later) without playing any golf. OK, that's only marginally true, I did dash out after yesterday's "Dear Head Nut..." radio show and hack around at the course. You know the kind of golf I mean... no warmup, no range, mostly "slap and giggle" golf. I guess it was better than not going out at all but just barely.
The pisser is that April is prime time for golf in Las Vegas. The conditions are almost always spot-on perfect and the weather is usually mild and comfortable. Well, the course conditions right now are PERFECT at Dragon Ridge. The greens, which were heavy with sand and pretty slow for about three weeks in March are now amazing! They are smooth, firm and fast! The fairways are lush. The rough is thick and penal, although there is a running debate on that which I'm going to post in the Forum section so the Golf Nuts can help find the answer. The weather is an entirely different story. As I write this I am glancing out my office window at my pool furniture flying across the yard. The pool, which was cleaned just Thursday, resembles an angry ocean immediately after a ship explosion! Debris is everywhere. I actually think I saw Mrs. Head Nut putting a life vest floatation device on her Yorkie before letting the dog go outside. Should I worry if the waves are hitting my window? AND THIS IS A CALM DAY, in comparison to some we've had this month.
I will use that excuse for my miserable play in the Member/Member. Of course the same wind didn't seem to effect my playing partner, Matt Brady, who shot a magnificent 66 in the first round! He hit all 18 greens in regulation, no bogeys, 4 birdies and an eagle. WOW...it was fun just to watch! And that is about exactly what I did...Matt's 66 was a Net 65 and our Team Net was 64... so I helped out on ONE HOLE! I didn't play much better the second day and our Net 67 on day two left us one stroke out of a three-way playoff for second. To make matters worse, the only side bet we won stiffed us for $400 a man... shame on you Todd.
The good news is that I get to play tomorrow. I joined the Golf Channel Amateur Tour at the request of a friend. My first event is at Legacy Golf Course. I love the layout but always seem to struggle getting the ball in the hole. I'm excited to play. In fact, I'm going to answer a little email, post some Forums and then set my bag up for Legacy. I won't need 4 wedges at Legacy but I will need an extra hybrid...Legacy is long and tight and I'm betting on wind...go figure!
We're ALL Nuts!
