Dragon Ridge Member/Member Tournament turns expensive!

Happy Monday Golf Nuts,

 

A quick lesson in good Calcutta Management... if you are playing with a partner you've never played with before, especially one with a 0.8 handicap, BE SURE TO ATTEND THE CALCUTTA! Imagine my surprise on Saturday morning when the golf staff at Dragon Ridge asked me for my end of the Calcutta money for our team, which my partner bought the night before, and the amount was $750...for my HALF!

Now, imagine my surprise when I arrive at the driving range and I'm told that the bidding went directly from $200 to $1,500... Jeez, that sure skips a lot of numbers, doesn't it?

Now, I must admit that on day #1 I was feeling pretty good about that bet, as we opened the tournament with a 2-Man Best Ball score of 64... eight under par ... we were tied for the lead and I had barely contributed to the team effort.

Alas, they just don't pay off at the midway point.

 

On day #2, we were the final group and ran into a buzz saw. The team we were paired with (and tied with) shoot a magnificent 61 and thumped us by six strokes. Our 67 was kind of impressive in itself, considering it contained bogeys.

My partner played one of the most amazing rounds of golf I've ever seen on Saturday. Matthew Bradey, Nut  #( ) hit EVERY green in regulation on his way to a magnificent round of 66! The Head Nut was simply excess baggage, although I did drive the cart flawlessly, while helping with a single birdie on #10.

The beautiful round from Saturday should have inspired us to greatness on Sunday but we never got a run going and carded a pretty weal 67 which left us one shot outside a 3-way tie for second and out-of-the-money.

The only good news was that we did win a $100 per day and total bet against another team. Actually, after a couple of cocktails following the first round, they pressed the second day ...and lost so that was a nice $400 win. However, I haven't seen any cash or either of the players since the scores were posted...hmmmmmm.
