Holes In One 9 Months, 1 Week ago
Since there are no entries in this category, let a former GNOTY start the ball rolling (so to speak). I have made 8 aces during my 50+ years of golf but it is easy to pick the most memorable. Years ago, while living in Oregon and working in the advertising industry, I made an ace on the 17th hole of the final round of our annual tournament -- 153 yds, 7-iron. This shot enabled me to win the tournament by a single stroke over my playing partner who birdied the same hole. Mostly luck but memorable, none the less.

So, about an average of an ace every 6 years.
Since I've only been playing 3 years I've got 3 more to go before I start really feeling hopeful to someday make at least one hole-in-one. At least I was with my regular playing partner a couple weeks ago (who has played for several years) when he made his first ace. The shot was played into the sun; so, we could both tell the shot looked good but couldn't see where it landed. Whereas he went first to the rough surrounding the green to look for his ball I went straight to the cup, looked down, looked over at him with a huge smile and pointed down. "No way," he said. "Yep, way."
Congrats to you for each of your aces and for being the first to post to this forum.

Dear #4076,

An Ace is wonderful but to have it mean so much is even better. You are deadly with an iron. Your 8 Aces is super!

How long did it take before the first ace?

Kevin (#5707)

I don't know if this will encourage you or discourage you but I had been playing 11 years when I got my first (and only) Ace.

There are certain things in golf that will never grow old and at the top of that list is making a hole-in-one. I get anxious every time I replay the hole on which mine occurred. It was Easter Sunday and I was playing at Snow Mountain at Las Vegas Paiute Resort. At the time, I was a 19 handicap (with skills)and started the round with a birdie on #1. I hit an 8-Iron out of a fairway bunker to 10 feet...drained the putt! I followed up with two routine pars and teed up on #4 a cool -1 through three. The fourth hole is 174 yard par-3 with a kidney shaped green. It is fronted by a pond and a bunker with a pot bunker a deep rough off the back.

I hit 7-iron because of a brisk helping wind. In the air, the ball looked like it would likely be long and off the back of the green. No balls were on the green but soon mine was the only one not accounted for. As 3 of us searched the deep rough, one of our party said he was going to look for it short, maybe we all saw it wrong. As he walked forward, he took a glance in the hole. He turned to me and yelled;"You still playing Callaway Red?" The ball was in the hole! It was too cool!

No matter when you get yours Kevin, and you will get yours, you will never tire of telling the story. I hope it is soon and that the Golf Nuts are the first to hear about it!

We'd love to hear from some of you other Nuts who have made Aces.

Re:Holes In One 7 Months, 2 Weeks ago
In my collection of golf stuff, I have a key chain that says,
"God grant before my golfing days are done that I might make one legitimate hole-in-one."
My hole-in-one came on May 15, 2005 on the 6th hole at my home course of Whisky Run. It's a 155 yard par 3. I hit a 6 iron from the right side of the tee. The ball landed about 10 feet in front of the green, one bounce over the edge of the sand trap, onto the green, and rolled into the cup. I played in a threesome that morning and we all saw it clear as day.
That was almost 5 years ago and I remember it as if it happened this morning. I'm just glad that my golfing days aren't done. Maybe I can get another one.
The only thing that bothers me is - why does the person who scored the ace have to buy the beer! Shouldn't it be the other way around?
Keep it in the short grass folks.

Re:Holes In One 5 Months, 2 Weeks ago
It took me almost 14 years to get my hole-in-one. I had pitched in from the fairway on par 4's for eagle 3 times previously, but had never holed out on a par 3 until Sept. 4, 2008. Poppy Hills hole #6; the GPS said 147 yards, so I hit my 7-iron. It was headed left of the flag but faded a little right, landed on a slope just off the green, kicked onto the green, bounced a few times, then popped into the cup. I was so stunned I couldn't make a sound; the guys I was with made up for that!

Re:Holes In One 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I got my first hole in one this year on April 23, 2010 at Cottonwood Hills Golf Course in Bozeman, Montana. I have been golfing for about 25 years and had some really close calls, but no legit hole in ones. It was hole #14, 140 yards and I hit 8 iron. We were hitting into the sun. When I hit my shot my playing partner said it looked really good and then said, "It might go in." I couldn't see it until he said that so I looked at the pin and saw my ball hit and spin to the left. That part of the green was in the shade so we couldn't see where it ended up, but I said that it should be close. When we got to the green we saw his ball short of the green and couldn't see my ball. But we saw the ball mark about 6 feet short of the pin and a little to the right. At that point we knew it had to be in and when I looked in, there it was! It was a cheap hole in one since he was the only person playing with me and there is no clubhouse at our course. We stopped at the corner bar and we didn't know anyone else in there, so it only cost me one drink (plus the free one for bringing in the scorecard).
